Loan Gruffudd has joined the cast in a key role in Bad Boys 4. The cast of Bad Boys 4 continues to grow, as it has now been revealed that Loan Gruffudd is one of the actors. Plot details for the sequel are scarce, but the film will see Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return as detectives who think of themselves as "Bad Boys". Deadline reports that Gruffudd will play Lockwood, a “high-profile lawyer running for election.” Whether he will play a friend to Marcus Burnett (played by Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (played by Smith) remains to be seen.
It was also previously reported that Bad Boys 4 will bring back Bad Boys for Life stars Paola Nunez, Alexander Ludwig and Vanessa Hudgens. Euphoria and Grey's Anatomy star, Eric Dane, is also rumored to have been tapped to play the villain. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing, returning from directing Bad Boys for Life, while the script is from Chris Bremner. Jerry Bruckheimer co-produces Smith and Doug Belgrad, while Lawrence executive produces with James Lassiter, Chad Oman, Mike Stenson, Barry Waldman, and Jon Mone.
Ioan Gruffudd is best known for his role as Reed Richards, aka Mister Fantastic, in the live-action Fantastic Four film released in 2005. He later reprized the role for its sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, in 2007. The actor later appeared in films such as Horrible Bosses, San Andreas, The Professor and the Madman, and Ava. He has also had leading roles on screen in recent years in series such as Forever, Liar, Harrow, and The Reunion.
All three films from the Bad Boys trilogy were box office successes. Released in 2020, Bad Boys for Life proved how profitable the franchise can be, grossing over $426 million on a budget of less than $100 million. Now films like Top Gun: Maverick and The Super Mario Bros. Movie shows that these films are making big money in theaters again after the pandemic era, it seems that this is the right time to return to releasing the next film.
Previously, there were rumors that the project would be canceled last year after the Smith incident at the Oscars.
